Women's Soccer suffers loss at Kutztown, 1-0

Sinatra sets career high with eight saves; Golden Bears attempt 12 shots in each half

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (Sept. 15) – The Vulcans allowed a goal in the opening minute of the game on Saturday afternoon before dropping a 1-0 contest at No. 16 Kuztown in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.

With the loss, the Vulcans drop to 1-5 this year with a 0-5 mark in league action. Meanwhile, the Golden Bears improve to 5-1 overall behind a 4-1 record in conference play and remain in a three-way tie for first place in the PSAC standings with 12 points.

Kutztown scored just 48 seconds into the contest, as freshman Kayla Argen tallied the only goal of the game off a feed by junior Emily Zwiercan. The Golden Bears continued to pressure the net with five additional shots, including two on goal, before the 15-minute mark. Kutztown nearly added to its lead in the 32nd minute with three shots, including two within a seven-second span.

The Golden Bears tallied four shot attempts in the opening 10 minutes of the second half. Kutztown later missed a header off a corner kick in the 70th minute before adding three shots in a span of under a minute.

Sophomore Gianna Sinatra (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon) registered a career-high eight saves while playing the entire contest on Saturday.

Kutztown attempted a dozen shots in each half and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Vulcans return to action on Friday, Sept. 21, when they travel to face four-time, defending-league champion East Stroudsburg at 3:30 p.m.
