EDINBORO, Pa. (Sept. 12) – The California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 contest at Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Wednesday night.
With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 1-4 this season behind a 0-4 mark in league play. Meanwhile, the Fighting Scots improve to 2-3 overall with a 1-3 record in conference action.
Edinboro jumped out to a 1-0 on the initial shot attempt of the game at the 10:21-mark when Danielle Chatten scored from 15 yards out. In the 16th minute, the Fighting Scots recorded three shots in a span of 17 seconds with Chatten tallying her second goal of the game on a rebound.
In the second half, the Vulcans cut the deficit to 2-1 when freshman
Rebecca Lyxell (Stockholm, Sweden/Norra Real) scored on a rebound with an assist from classmate
Maraye Alexander (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) at the 74:58-mark. It marked the first career points for the two newcomers, as Lyxell was also making her college debut on Wednesday. Edinboro nearly countered in the 78th minute before a shot attempt hit off the crossbar. Cal U managed a shot attempt and corner kick in the final 10 minutes, but were unable to even the score.
Sophomore
Gianna Sinatra (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon) tallied a pair of saves while playing all 90 minutes for the second-straight game.
The Fighting Scots finished with a 10-7 shot advantage and also posted a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
Cal U continues its road trip on Saturday, Sept. 15, when it travels to face No. 16 Kutztown at 1 p.m.
