CALIFORNIA (Oct. 12) – In a physical contest at Phillipsburg Soccer Facility, the Vulcans battled to a 0-0 double-overtime draw versus Shippensburg on Friday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
With the tie, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer program moves to 1-6-4 overall with a 0-6-1 mark in league play. The Vulcans were held to a scoreless draw for the first time since the 2016 campaign. Meanwhile, the Raiders stand at 9-2-1 this season behind a 5-1-1 record in conference action and snap a five-game winning streak over PSAC opponents.
Shippensburg kept the ball on its offensive side of the field for the opening 17-plus minutes and totaled four shots and two corner kicks. The Vulcan defense held off the attacks and countered with a pair of shots that went high over the net. Over the next 12 minutes, both team traded possession while only one shot was taken by either team. Shippensburg was issued a yellow card in the closing minutes of the first half, as the contest went into the break scoreless.
The Raiders were able to tally two shots in the initial five minutes of the second half, but both attempts went high of the net. Cal U responded in the 58th minute with two shots and a corner kick in nearly two minutes. In the opening 16-plus minutes of action in the second half, the official issued three yellow cards, as both team fought to break the scoreless drought. Shippensburg saw a pair of a shots blocked just passed the 61:41-mark, while the Vulcans countered with three shots in nearly three minutes. Cal U saw two shots saved by the Raider goalkeeper just before the end of regulation, while four more yellow cards were given out in the final 10 minutes.
In overtime, the Vulcans controlled possession in both extra periods, holding a 4-0 shot advantage, but were unable to find the back of the net. Cal U was able to clear a corner kick from the Shippensburg offense in the closing seconds, as the contest ended in a scoreless draw.

Lucas Exner (Horstmar, Germany/Pascal-Gymnasium) posted two saves in 110 minute of action.
Cal U finished the match with a slight 15-11 edge in shots, while Shippensburg held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Vulcans return to action on Sunday, Oct. 14, when they travel to face Slippery Rock in PSAC action at 4:30 p.m.
