SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (Oct. 14) – Behind a lone goal in the 32nd minute, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss at Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, the Vulcans drop to 1-7-4 this season behind a 0-7-1 record in league action. Meanwhile, The Rock improves to 5-8-2 overall with a 3-4-1 mark in conference play.
Cal U posted the initial shot of the contest at the 4:02-mark of the first half before Slippery Rock countered with three shots and a corner kick in a five-minute span. The teams traded possession midway through the half before The Rock scored on header from Alexander Vilchek, his third of the season, with an assist registered by Hector Buchter to take a 1-0 lead. Slippery Rock continued to push offensively with two more shots and a corner kick, but the Vulcan defense was able to clear all the attempts. Cal U saw a shot attempt go wide of the net just before the break, as Slippery took the lead into halftime.
Both teams managed shots in the opening seven minutes of the second half before Cal U totaled three corner kick in 33 seconds, but was unable to find the back of the net. The Vulcans had a pair of chances saved in a three-minute span. The official issued five yellow card in a 12-plus minute stretch in the half, as The Rock sealed a 1-0 victory.

The Rock held a 15-6 shot advantage, including a 5-3 edge in shots on goal, while the Vulcans posted a 4-2 lead in corner kicks.
Cal U returns to PSAC play on Wednesday, Oct. 17, when it host Pitt-Johnstown at Phillipsburg Soccer Facility, starting at 5 p.m.
