Colon finishes with 12 saves, posts double-digit saves for third time this season

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 27) – The Vulcans dropped a 3-0 contest to IUP in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Wednesday night at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.

With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team falls to 1-7-1 this season with a 1-6-1 mark in league action. Meanwhile, IUP improves to 5-4 overall behind a 4-4 record in conference play.

The Crimson Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute on a free kick from 25 yards out by Megan Coyne despite a diving attempt by senior goalkeeper Michaela Colon (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg). IUP stretched its lead at the 32:07-mark on a goal by Lexie Palluconi off an assist from Brandie Bryant before Palluconi and Bryant connected for another goal in the 41st minute to give the Crimson Hawks a 3-0 lead.

Colon nearly matched her career high in saves on Wednesday, finishing with 12 saves while facing 23 shots. She has now recorded double-digit saves three times this year and leads the PSAC with 7.44 saves per game.

IUP finished with a 23-2 shot advantage while also being whistled for offsides eight times. The Crimson Hawks also attempted all six corner kicks in the contest.

Cal U returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 30, when it travels to face Mansfield at 2 p.m.
