CALIFORNIA (Sept. 13) – The California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team surrendered three goals in the first half on Wednesday evening in a 3-0 loss to Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.
With the loss, Cal U falls to 1-3-1 this season with a 1-2-1 record in conference play. Meanwhile, Edinboro improves to 2-2-1 overall, matching its record in the league.
The best opportunity for the Vulcans in the first half came on an attack in the opening minute by freshman
Zana Ross (Seville, Ohio/Cloverleaf), whose shot went wide right of the net. The Fighting Scots regrouped and found an opening in the seventh minute when Sidney Dobbins scored off a pass from classmate Danielle Chatten. Just two minutes later, Edinboro senior Ashley Mutkus sent a corner kick into the box that connected with teammate Rebecca Manns to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage. On the counter-attack, the Fighting Scots added to their lead when Mutkus bent a ball over the hands of the goalkeeper to bring her season total to four. Edinboro finished the half with a 9-4 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.
In a chippy second half, both teams fought for possession as just a combined six total shots were taken in the last 45 minutes. Cal U nearly broke through at the 83:04-mark when senior
Daniela Dell'Aquila (Toronto, Ontario/St. Elizabeth Catholic) had a free kick chance saved by the outstretched arms of the Edinboro keeper.

Michaela Colon (Montgomery Village,Md./Gaithersburg) finished with two saves in the games after facing 11 shots in 90 minutes of action.
The Fighting Scots out-shot the Vulcans by an 11-8 margin after registering two shots in the second half, while also holding a 12-4 edge in corner kicks.
Cal U returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 16, when it hosts No.3 Kutztown at 2 p.m.
