Vulcans dealt loss at Shippensburg, 7-0

Raiders record four goals in the first half, seven different players tally one goal in victory

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 13) – The Vulcans suffered a 7-0 defeat at Shippensburg after allowing four goals in the first half on Friday evening in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
 
With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team drop to 3-9-1 overall and move to 3-8-1 in league play. Meanwhile, the Raiders improve to 4-9-1 behind a 3-9 record in conference action.
 
Cal U freshman Kellie Lynch (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) recorded the first shot of the game in the seventh minute on an attempt that went wide of the goal. Shippensburg scored the initial goal of the match at the 13:31-mark on a rebound after a save was made by senior Michaela Colon (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg). The Raiders took a two-goal advantage in the 22nd minute when senior Mallory Patterson scored from five yards out on a ball played through by junior Beth McGee. Sophomore Izzy Weigel notched her team-leading seventh goal just four minutes later to give Shippensburg a 3-0 lead. The Raiders went into halftime with a 4-0 lead after registering a goal late in the first half.
 
Freshman Gianna Sinatra (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon) made her third appearance in goal for the Vulcans this season, entering the game at the start of the second half. Shippensburg recorded its fifth goal at the 63:13-mark when freshman Casey Bell scored with an assist given to McGee. Sinatra tallied four saves in the final 45 minutes before allowing two late goals in the span of 62 seconds to close out the match.
 
Colon and Sinatra recorded seven total saves in the contest in a combined 90 minutes of play.
 
Shippensburg out-shot Cal U by an 18-12 margin, in addition to a 2-0 edge in corner kicks.

The Vulcans return to PSAC action on Sunday, Oct. 15, when they host Slippery Rock on Senior Day at 3:30 p.m.
