Cal U shutout by The Rock on Senior Day, 3-0

Vulcans recognized seniors Carberry, Colon, Dell'Aquila, Grant and Scenna on Sunday

CALIFORNIA (Oct. 15) – The California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team allowed three first-half goals on Sunday afternoon while suffering a 3-0 loss to Slippery Rock on Senior Day at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.
 
With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 3-10-1 on the season behind a 3-9-1 mark in league action. Meanwhile, The Rock moves to 9-4-1 overall and remains tied for third in the PSAC standings with a 9-3-1 record .
 
Senior Michaela Colon (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg) recorded the first save of the game in the sixth minute on a shot from junior Skye Kramer. Slippery Rock registered the initial goal of the contest at the 9:39-mark on a header by sophomore Madison Johnson off a corner kick from junior Brooke Testa. Colon faced four shots in the span of 10 minutes, recording three saves to keep score at 1-0. The Rock offense extended its lead at the 27:29-mark on a ball played through by Testa to senior Maddy Tletski, who scored in the upper left corner of the net. Testa added a third goal in the 41st minute on a curling shot into the top left corner from the right side of the box. Slippery Rock held an 11-0 shot advantage and a 4-0 edge in corner kicks at the break.
 
The Vulcans notched their first shot at the 65:10-mark from freshman Kiley Austin (Orchard Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) which was saved by the goalie. Cal U saw a header by Austin sail over the crossbar in the 72nd minute in an attempt to trim the deficit. Slippery Rock recorded its seventh shutout of the season while featuring two different keepers in the match.
 
Colon finished the game with five saves, all in the first half, while playing all 90 minutes in the losing effort. 
 
The Rock held a 14-2 shot advantage in the contest and held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
 
Cal U plays its final home game of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 18, when it hosts Clarion at 5:30 p.m.
