CALIFORNIA (Jan. 25) – Junior forward
Seairra Barrett recorded her 1,000th career point on Wednesday evening, as the No. 5 Vulcans recorded a 72-38 win over Clarion in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play at the Convocation Center.
With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team extended its winning streak to eight games with a 19-1 overall record. The Vulcans remain tied with Edinboro for first place in the PSAC West standings with a 13-1 league mark. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles fall to 12-8 this season behind a 9-5 record in conference play.
Barrett became the 27th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points. She finished the game with eight points, two rebounds and three steals while playing 25 minutes. Despite being held to single digits for the first time this season, Barrett is still averaging a career-best 17.4 points per game this season.

Miki Glenn (Bridgeport, W.Va./Bridgeport) led all scorers with 14 points on five-of-nine shooting from the field and also added three rebounds seven assists and nine steals in the victory. Sophomore
Abbey Sporio (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) tallied 11 points, six rebounds and three steals, while Junior
Shatara Parsons (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) recorded 10 points and a game-high seven rebounds (five offensive).
The Vulcans scored the initial four points of the game and did not allow a Golden Eagle shot attempt until the 6:22-mark in the first quarter. After two Clarion free-throws, Cal U went on a 9-3 run capped by a three-pointer from Sporio to take a 13-5 lead with 41 seconds left in the quarter. The Vulcans held the Golden Eagles to just 22.2 percent from the field in the first quarter and forced 12 turnovers. Cal U opened the second quarter on an 8-1 run finished with a lay-up from Sporio at the 5:53-mark to take a 21-9 lead. A jumper from Glenn started a run of seven-consecutive points to close out the second half, putting the Vulcans up by a 30-14 margin. Cal U limited Clarion to just a .188 field-goal percentage in the first half and forced 21 turnovers.
Cal U began the third quarter with back-to-back baskets from Parsons to open the game up with a 15-4 run over the initial four minutes of the second half to take a 45-18 lead. Barrett tallied her 1,000th career point at the 1:56-mark in the third quarter as part of an 11-2 run that gave the Vulcans their largest lead of the game at 34 points, 56-22. The two teams traded baskets over the fourth quarter before Cal U closed out the game on a 7-2 run to preserve a 34-point win. Cal U shot 55.7 percent from the field in the second half.
The Vulcans shot 40.5 percent (28-of-69) from the floor for the game and made 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles posted just a .277 field-goal percentage (13-of-47) and were held to just 14.3 percent (2-of-14) from three-point territory. Clarion held a 40-35 rebounding advantage, while the Vulcans forced 36 turnovers in the victory and scored 41 points off turnovers.
Senior Jen Straw scored 12 points for the Golden Eagles on four-of-five shooting and recorded eight rebounds in the loss.
Cal U returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 28, when it hosts Edinboro in the Convocation Center at 3 p.m.
