Vulcans record victory at Seton Hill, 2-0

Campbell, Amos each score goals in second-straight game; Exner records fourth career shutout

GREENSBURG, Pa. (Sept. 7) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team recorded a pair of second-period goals in a 2-0 win at Seton Hill on Wednesday afternoon to open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.

With the victory, the Vulcans improve to 2-0 overall and open league play with a 1-0 mark. Meanwhile, the Griffins fall to 2-1 this season with a 0-1 record in conference play.

Cal U and Seton Hill were scoreless at halftime with just six total shots registered in the first period. The Vulcans took a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute when sophomore Eric Campbell (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) scored off a rebound from a penalty kick by senior Elliot Taylor (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley), who was credited with an assist. Freshman Cooper Amos (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) stretched the lead to 2-0 at the 69:40-mark when he scored on a diving header following a free kick by sophomore Ahmad Awadalla (Allentown, Pa./Parkland).

Sophomore Lucas Exner (Horstmar, Germany/Pascal-Gymnasium) recorded his first victory of the season after registering four saves to earn his fourth career shutout. Seton Hill freshman Austin Iddon posted two saves in the losing effort.

The Griffins held a 10-8 advantage in shots, while each team recorded two corner kicks.

The Vulcans return to action on Saturday, Sept. 10, when they travel to Amherst, N.Y., to face Daeman in non-conference play at 2 p.m.
