Cal U opens weekend road trip with loss to two-time, defending-PSAC Champion

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (Sept. 30) – The California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 contest at two-time, defending-league champion and No. 4 East Stroudsburg on Friday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.

With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 1-6-2 overall behind a five-game losing streak. Meanwhile, the Warriors improve to 8-1 this season with an 8-0 record in league play, as their only loss came on Monday at defending-Northest-10 Champion Adelphi (N.Y.).

ESU pressured the net early in the contest, as it attempted three corner kicks and attempted two shots in a span of just six-plus minutes. The Warriors later tallied the opening goal of the game in the 19th minute when Birelyn Hackett scored off an assist from Shea Neal. Following halftime, ESU again applied pressure with a shot followed by two corners in just over a two-minute span. The Warriors stretched the lead to 2-0 at the 63:38-mark with a goal by Pickett off a feed from Neal, her fourth assist of the year.

Senior Meghan Jayes (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) finished with eight saves on Friday, marking her fifth game this year of at least eight saves. ESU goalkeeper Jules Harris totaled three saves to record her league-leading sixth shutout of the year.

The Warriors finished with a 19-5 shot advantage after attempting 11 shots in the second period. ESU also held a 9-0 edge in corner kicks after attempting six in the first half.

Cal U continues its weekend road trip tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 1, at Kutztown at 1 p.m.
