KUTZTOWN, Pa. (Oct. 1) – Despite a career-high 15 saves by senior
Meghan Jayes (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany), the Vulcans suffered a 1-0 loss at Kutztown on Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team falls to 1-7-2 overall - all in league play. Meanwhile, the Golden Bears improve to 8-2 this season behind a 6-2 mark in conference action.
Jayes recorded 15 saves (10 first half) in the losing effort on Saturday while facing 29 shots. The 15 saves are the most in a single game since
Erin Cook made 18 stops against IUP in September 2003. Jayes has now tallied double-digit saves twice this year and ranks second in the PSAC this year with 73 saves.
Kutztown scored the lone goal of the game at the 36:37-mark when Schyler Ackerman scored off a rebound after Jayes made an initial save.
The Golden Bears finished with a sizeable 29-3 shot advantage after attempting 17 shots in the first half. Kutztown also posted a 9-1 edge in corner kicks in the victory.
Cal U returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 5, when it travels to face IUP at 4 p.m.
