LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Sept. 3) – The California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team closed play at the Lock Haven Tournament on Saturday with a pair of in-region wins over Shepherd and Charleston (W.Va.), both of the Mountain East Conference (MEC).
Against the Rams, Cal U earned a 3-0 victory (25-12, 25-19, 25-13) behind a .355 hitting percentage. Senior
Danielle Hayes (Erie, Pa./McDowell) paced the team with 13 kills while hitting at a .375 clip. Sophomore
Seairra Barrett (Center Twp., Pa./Central Valley) finished with 11 kills on a .667 hitting-percentage and classmate
Tina Bellhy (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) collected six kills in the victory. Senior
Megan Litoborski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) guided the offense with 27 assists against Sehepherd.
Hayes also led the team with nine digs, while junior
Ashley Leto (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and freshman
Samantha Raidt (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) finished with seven and four digs, respectively. Sophomore
Lois van Schaik (Naarden, Netherlands/St. Vituscollege) tallied a team-high four aces and Leto collected three blocks in the win.
Against the Golden Eagles, Cal U collected another 3-0 win (25-16, 25-22, 25-19) after tallying 44 kills. Hayes led the team and set a career high with 19 kills on 43 attempts. Barrett totaled eight kills on a .313 hitting percentage and Leto also posted eight kills while hitting at a .400 clip in the win. Litoborski tallied 28 assists versus Charleston.
Leto collected a team-high nine digs, while Litoborski and sophomore
Bayleana Sowers (Mt. Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) registered seven and six digs, respectively. Hayes added four blocks and the duo of Barrett and van Schaik each tallied two blocks.
Cal U returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 8, when it hosts Davis & Elkins at the Convocation Center to open the Vulcan Invitational at 7 p.m.
