Cal U posts win over Davis & Elkins, 3-1

Litoborski records most assists since 2006, trio of Barrett, Hayes and Leto combine for 57 kills

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 8) – Senior Megan Litoborski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) tallied a staggering 62 assists on Thursday night, as the Vulcans opened play in their home invitational with a 3-1 victory (25-20, 18-25, 25-19, 30-28) over Davis & Elkins at the Convocation Center.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team improves to 4-1 overall while making its home opener. Meanwhile, Davis & Elkins falls to 1-4 this season.

Litoborkski finished with the most assists in a match since former All-American Renata da Silva totaled 65 assists in a five-set match at Kutztown on Oct. 14, 2006. Litoborski also recorded an assist/dig double-double in the victory, as she posted 10 digs against the Senators. She set her previous career high of 52 assists in five sets at IUP as a sophomore.

Fellow senior Danielle Hayes (Erie, Pa./McDowell) also established a career high on Thursday, as she registered 22 kills while hitting at a .288 clip. She leads the team with 4.89 kills per set this season after posting at least 13 kills in all five matches. Hayes also tallied seven digs and two services aces against Davis & Elkins.

Sophomore Seairra Barrett (Center Twp., Pa./Central Valley) shattered her career high with 18 kills on a dominating .552 hitting percentage. Junior Ashley Leto (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) nearly matched her personal best with 17 kills and also paced the team with 15 digs.

Cal U continues play in the Vulcan Invitational tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 9, when it hosts Charleston (W.Va.) and Winston-Salem State at the Convocation Center.
