ELKINS, W.Va. (Sept. 27) – Facing one of the top teams in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) this season, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss at Davis & Elkins in non-conference play on Tuesday night.
With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 5-2-1 overall while playing their first road match in two-plus weeks. Meanwhile, the Senators improve to 5-1-2 this season and extend their win streak to five games.
The game was scoreless in the first period despite the two teams combining for 10 shot attempts. Late in the period, Cal U pressured the net with three shots in just over one minute with each attempt going right of the target.
The Senators were issued a yellow card in the final minute of the first period and another yellow card less than 90 seconds after halftime. Cal U was unable to register a shot attempt in the 75th minute after having a pair of corner kicks within in span of just over 30 seconds. Davis & Elkins then claimed a 1-0 lead at the 75:19-mark when Mads Kaiser scored his second goal of the year off an assist from Pablo Salvador Lopez. Shortly after the goal, sophomore
Mike Cummings (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) was issued his second yellow card within a span of six-plus minutes and the Vulcans were forced to play the remainder of the game down a player.

Lucas Exner (Horstmar, Germany/Pascal-Gymnasium) posted two saves while 90 minutes in the losing effort. D&E goalkeeper Hedi Mehnaoui finished with one save while recording the shutout.
The Vulcans finished with an 11-5 shot advantage and posted a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.
Cal U returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 1, when it travels to East Stroudsburg at 1 p.m.
