Vulcans score initial goal in opening five minutes before Rock counters with two unanswered goals

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 13) – The Vulcans allowed the game-winning goal in the 59th minute during a 2-1 loss to Slippery Rock at the Philipsburg Soccer Complex in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Tuesday afternoon.

With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team fall to 1-2-2 this season with all five games in league play. Meanwhile, The Rock improves to 2-3 overall behind a 2-1 mark in conference action.

California took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute when junior Kira Carberry (Odenten, Md./Arundel) found senior Selena Fushimi-Karns (Dublin, Ohio/ Worthington Kilbourne) on a ball through midfield for her first goal of the season. The Rock tied the score less than 10 minutes later at the 14:16-mark when Maddy Tletski scored on a cross by Dara Demich from the corner. Slippery Rock broke the tie in the second half when Tletski scored her second goal of the game after she collected a loose ball off a challenge.
