Men's Soccer battles to tie with Rock, 0-0

Cal U held 17-5 shot advantage in scoreless tie, teams place combined seven shots on goal

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 13) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team battled to a 0-0 double-overtime tie against Slippery Rock on Tuesday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action at the Phillisburg Soccer Complex.

With the tie, the Vulcans remain unbeaten this year and are 3-0-1 overall with a 1-0-1 mark in league play. Meanwhile, The Rock moves to 1-2-1 this season and 1-0-1 in conference play. 

Cal U recorded four shots in the first half with one shot on goal, while Slippery Rock put its only shot on target in the opening 45 minutes of play. The Vulcans registered 10 shots in the second half with three reaching the target and The Rock put one of three shots on net in the second half. Slippery Rock and Cal U posted two and three shots, respectively, in the overtime periods to result in the scoreless draw.  

Sophomore goalkeeper Lucas Exner (Horstmar, Germany/Pascal-Gymnasium) recorded two saves in his third shutout of the season. Slippery Rock junior Steven Rerick posted five saves in 110 minutes of action.

The Vulcans finished with a sizeable 17-5 shot advantage and also held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Cal U continues PSAC play on Saturday, Sept. 17, when it hosts West Chester at 6 p.m.
