Vulcans battle to scoreless tie at Clarion, 0-0

Cal U plays to second-straight scoreless tie, extends opponent's scoreless streak to 237 minutes

CLARION, Pa. (Sept. 10) – The California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team played to a 0-0 double-overtime tie for the second time this week, as it traveled to face Clarion on Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action. 

With the tie, the Vulcans stand at 1-1-2 overall with the same record in league play. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles move to 1-2-1 this season, also all in conference action.

Cal U recorded six shots in the first half with one shot on goal. In comparison, Clarion recorded eight shots before halftime and missed a scoring opportunity in the 30th minute when a shot hit the crossbar. The Vulcans registered seven shots in the second half with two on net, while the Golden Eagles were only able to put one of their two shots on target before the end of regulation. Cal U and Clarion posted three and four shots, respectively, in the overtime periods to result in the scoreless tie.

Senior goalkeeper Meghan Jayes (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) recorded three saves in her second-straight shutout. Clarion sophomore Krista Mosi collected five saves in the scoreless contest.

Cal U finished with a 16-14 shot advantage, while Clarion held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks. 

The Vulcans return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 10, when they host Slippery Rock in PSAC play at 4:30 p.m.
