Women's Basketball tops West Liberty, 92-50

Cal U scores 48 points off turnovers; Seven Vulcans finish with at least eight points in the win

ERIE, Pa. (Nov. 12) – In a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament, the No. 8 Vulcans recorded a 92-50 victory against West Liberty at the Conference Challenge hosted by Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team improves to 2-0 this season. Meanwhile, West Liberty, which graduated four seniors from last year's regional finalist team, falls to 0-2 overall.

Senior guard Miki Glenn (Bridgeport, W.Va./Bridgeport) led all scorers with 23 points after shooting 6-11 from the field and 11-12 from the free-throw line. She also added three assists, two rebounds and two steals while playing 34 minutes.

In her season debut, junior forward Seairra Barrett (Center Twp., Pa./Central Valley) contributed 17 points on 8-14 from the floor in just 23 minutes after playing on the Cal U volleyball team last night. She also posted three rebounds and two steals against the Lady Hilltoppers. Four different players finished with nine points in the win and freshman DJ Hahn (Warren, Pa./Warren) collected a team-high five rebounds.

Cal U shot 50.8 percent (33-of-65) from the floor and made 68.6 percent (24-of-35) from the free-throw line. In comparison, West Liberty shot at a 37.5 clip (18-of-48) from the field after shooting just 2-of-11 from beyond the arc. West Liberty held a 41-30 rebounding advantage, while Cal U scored 42 points in the paint. The Vulcans forced 42 turnovers that led to 48 points in the victory. 

Freshman Monica Bragg tied for the team lead with eight points and also led the Hilltoppers with seven rebounds. Classmates Olivia Belknap and Kelly Meade also both finished with eight points.

The Vulcans return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 16, when they travel to face West Virginia State in Institute, West Virginia, at 6 p.m.
