LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Oct. 17) – Following one of the top rushing performances in school history, California University of Pennsylvania junior running back
Nick Grissom (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Grissom finished with 258 rushing yards on 33 attempts with two touchdowns on Saturday night in a 48-20 victory at Clarion. He registered the fifth-most rushing yards in school history while becoming the first player since 2004 to total over 250 rushing yards in a game. Grissom posted three runs of 20 yards or longer against the Golden Eagles, including a 36-yard touchdown on the opening drive of the game for the Vulcans.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Grissom ranks third in the PSAC with 112.5 rushing yards per game and is one only two players in the league with at least 100 carries to average over 6.5 yards per attempt. He has rushed for at least 100 yards in each of the past three games and has eclipsed the century mark four times this season.
Grissom missed all of last season due to injury after leading the team with nearly 700 rushing yards in 2014. He is on pace this year to become the first player with 2,000 career rushing yards since
Lamont Smith (2010-12), who is also the last player to average at least 100.0 rushing yards per game in a season.
Cal U has featured the PSAC West Offensive Player of the Week three times this season, while also receiving weekly honors once on both defense and special teams.
The Vulcans return to action on Saturday, Oct. 22, when they host Gannon for Homecoming at 3 p.m.
