Vulcans blank West Chester, 1-0

Dell'Aquila scores game-winner in 17th minute; Jayes records third shutout of the year

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (Sept. 19) – Sophomore Daniela Dell'Aquila (Toronto, Ontario/St. Elizabeth Catholic) scored her first goal of the season, as the Vulcans held off West Chester for a 1-0 victory in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team improves its record to 4-1-1 overall with all games in conference action. Meanwhile, the Golden Rams fall to 4-2-0 for the season with all games coming in league play.

The Vulcans scored early in the first half when at the 16:16-mark Dell'Aquila netted her first goal, unassisted, at Cal U. Despite posting six shots on net in the first half, West Chester was unable to get on the board during the period. The second half saw just one shot on target from both teams.

The Golden Rams out-shot the Vulcans by a 14-7 margin, including nine shots in the first half, and held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

Junior Meghan Jayes (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) registered a season-high seven saves, including six in the first half, as she tallied her third shutout of the season.

Cal U returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 23, when they host Edinboro at 5 p.m.
