CLERMONT, Fla. (March 8) – The Vulcans lost both games on Sunday afternoon, losing to No. 21 Indianapolis and Concordia-St. Paul while at the NTC Spring Games.
The California University of Pennsylvania softball team opened play with an 8-0 loss to No. 21 Indianapolis of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) before suffering a 6-3 loss to Concordia-St. Paul of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
Indianapolis took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the second before adding one run in both the fourth and fifth innings. The Greyhounds later recorded the run-rule victory after scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Cal U was limited to just two hits with sophomore right fielder
Kaity Finley (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) recording both hits. Sophomore starting pitcher
Kaity Davis (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) took the loss after yielding three runs (all earned) on two hits and three walks in 1.1 innings of work.
Against Concordia-St. Paul, Cal U tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the third. Freshman
Jenna Lehoux (Mississauga, Ontario/Saint Aloysius Gonzaga) led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Freshman left fielder
Jacquelyn Fowler (Grove City, Ohio /Central Crossing) walked before junior first baseman
Lindsay Reicoff (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) posted a three-run homer to tie the game. The Golden Bears reclaimed took the lead with a pinch-hit RBI single in the top of the sixth before adding two insurance runs in the seventh.
Reicoff finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and totaled the only extra-base hit in the loss. Junior starting pitcher
Alex Sagl (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Trafalgar) suffered the loss after allowing six runs (four earned) in 7.0 innings with six strikeouts and no walks.
The Vulcans look to continue play in Florida tomorrow, Monday, March 9, when they face Queens (N.Y.) and Wayne State (Neb.).
