CALIFORNIA (Oct. 24) – For the second time in as many games, the Vulcans posted a shutout with a 4-0 victory against Shippensburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Saturday night.
With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team improved to 8-6-1 on the season with a 5-4-1 conference record and have now earned at least one point in three of its last four contests. The Vulcans also clinched their fourth playoff berth in the last five seasons as well as the most wins since the 2012 season. Meanwhile, the Raiders fall to 7-8-0 overall behind a 3-7-0 league mark.
Cal U scored the first goal of the match at the 20:33-mark when sophomore
Nathan Delgado (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) scored his second goal of the season with an assist from senior
Lubos Kubik (Pardubice, Czech Republic/Roosevelt (Iowa)). Just over one minute later, freshman
Eric Campbell (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) registered his fifth goal of the year after releasing a shot from outside of the box moments after receiving a pass from freshman
Keion Randolph (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury). The Vulcans were able to score once more before halftime when Kubik recorded his second goal on the year off a penalty kick with 15 seconds remaining in the first half.
In the second half, Cal U scored the only goal of the period at the 73:21-mark when senior
Jesse Scheirer (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) netted his ninth goal of the year after receiving a pass from junior
Nick Cichon (Monongahela, Pa./Northeastern) in the box. The Raiders posted their best scoring chance of the night in the 90th minute when a shot from James Connor was kicked away by a Cal U defender.
The Vulcans held a 16-11 edge in shots and the Raiders finished with a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman goalkeeper
Lucas Exner (Horstmar, Germany/Pascal-Gymnasium) tallied seven saves in the win while playing all 90 minutes.
Cal U returns to action Saturday, Oct. 31, for Senior Day against Lock Haven at 2:30 p.m.
