JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (Oct. 21) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team registered its third shutout of the season with a 1-0 victory at Pitt-Johnstown in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, the Vulcans improve to 7-6-1 on the year with a 5-2-0 league mark. Meanwhile, the Mountain Cats fall to 1-14-0 overall behind a 0-9-0 conference play.
Cal U opened the contest with an early goal when sophomore
Nathan Delgado (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) scored at the 4:12-mark after collecting a ball that went off the post. The Vulcans nearly extended the lead less than a minute later when senior
Jesse Scheirer (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) hit the post with a shot. The first half ended with Pitt-Johnstown failing to record a shot on net. In the second period, the Mountain Cats were unable to post a shot on target until the 62nd minute and finished with only three total. In comparison, Cal U was able to collect 13 shots in the second half, but could not score.
Freshman goalkeeper
Lucas Exner (Horstmar, Germany/Pascal-Gymnasium) posted three saves in 90 minutes to tally the second shutout of his career.
The Vulcans held a 21-9 advantage in shots and a 10-2 edge in corner kicks.
Cal U returns to action Saturday, Oct. 24, as it takes on Shippensburg at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility at 6 p.m.
