JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (Oct. 17) – The Vulcans completed their weekend of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover play with a 3-1 victory (19-25, 25-15, 25-16, 25-20) against Millersville before suffering a 3-1 loss (25-21, 16-25, 20-25, 23-25) against Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday.
With the split, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team moves to 8-15 overall behind a 6-7 record in conference play.
Against the Marauders (11-11), junior
Danielle Hayes (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and sophomore
Ashley Leto (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) both led the offense with 14 kills, while senior
Mary Lavery (La Plata, Md./La Plata) registered 12 kills. Junior
Megan Litoborski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) guided the offense with 24 assists and junior
Taylor Solo (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford ) matched her season high with 17 assists.
Hayes also led the defense with 19 digs, which tied her career high set yesterday. Junior
Abby Matusik (Mars, Pa./Mars) posted 17 digs, while Leto tallied 16 digs and Solo recorded 10 digs for an assist/dig double-double. Litoborski compiled nine digs to fall one short of her third-straight double-double. Senior
Miranda Fouzie (Kingston, Ontario/Sydenham) posted six blocks and freshman
Seairra Barrett (Center Twp., Pa./Central Valley) tallied five blocks.
Against the PSAC East-leading Mountain Cats (19-13), Lavery led the team with 13 kills on a .278 hitting percentage. Hayes finished with 12 kills and Fouzie tallied eight kills while hitting at a .368 clip. Litoborski and Solo both registered assist/dig double-doubles in the loss with Litoborski posting 20 assists and 14 digs, while Solo collected 14 assists and 12 digs.
Matusik paced defense with 18 digs, while Hayes and Leto both recorded 17 digs in the loss. Barrett helped control the net with six blocks and the duo of Fouzie and freshman
Emily Bucklin (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) each posted five blocks.
Cal U returns to PSAC West play on Friday, Oct. 23, when it travels to face PSAC West-leading Edinboro at 7 p.m.
