EDINBORO, Pa. (Oct. 23) – The California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss (25-20, 23-25, 16-25, 22-25) to Edinboro, the top team in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West standings, in divisional play on Friday night.
With the loss, the Vulcans drop to 8-16 overall behind a 6-8 record in league play. Meanwhile, the Fighting Scots improve to 24-2 on the year with a 13-1 conference mark while increasing their winning streak to 11 matches.
Senior
Mary Lavery (La Plata, Md./La Plata) led the offense with 16 kills behind a .368 hitting percentage. Sophomore
Ashley Leto (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and senior
Miranda Fouzie (Kingston, Ontario/Syndenham) each posted 10 kills and Fouzie registered a team-best .391 hitting percentage. Junior
Megan Litoborski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) paced the offense with 34 assists.
On the defensive side, junior
Danielle Hayes (Erie, Pa./McDowell) tallied 12 digs, while Lavery and Leto both recorded 11 digs. Junior
Abby Matusik (Mars, Pa./Mars) also posted 10 digs in the loss. Fouzie led the team with four blocks and Hayes added three blocks.
Cal U returns to action tomorrow, Oct. 24, when it travels to face Slippery Rock at 2 p.m.
