Trio of Mahady, Fratz and Glenn combine for over 60 points

CALIFORNIA (Jan. 10) – Senior Emma Mahady (Albury, Australia/Xavier) eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau while scoring a career-high 26 points on Saturday afternoon in leading the No. 25 California University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team to a 73-68 overtime victory over No. 16 IUP in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action at the Convocation Center.

With the win, the Vulcans improve to 13-2 overall and 10-1 in conference play. The Vulcans now move to 3-1 this season against nationally-ranked ranked opponents and take sole possession of first place in the PSAC West standings. Meanwhile, the Crimson Hawks fall to 13-1 overall behind a 9-1 mark in league action.

Mahady scored a combined 19 of her 26 points in the second half and overtime, while connecting on 10-of-19 shots from the floor and made four-of-six shots from beyond the arc. She added four rebounds (three offensive), two assists and one steal while playing 44 minutes. Mahady is the 25th player in school history to score 1,000 points and the first since Amy Johns accomplished the feat in the 2011-12 season.

Sophomore Miki Glenn (Bridgeport, W.Va./Bridgeport) scored 19 points on six-of-17 shooting, along with five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Senior Kaitlynn Fratz (Accident, Md./Northern Garrett) totaled 17 points, four rebounds and three assists while making all six of her free-throw attempts.

Glenn helped start a 7-2 run by the Vulcans which cut the deficit to 16-9 at the 12:04-mark. Cal U took its first lead of the game at 19-18 on a three-pointer by Mahady with 6:47 left in the first half, which capped an 11-2 rally over a five-minute stretch.  IUP then countered with a 10-0 run with 3:44 left before taking a 31-25 halftime lead.

The teams traded points during the opening minutes of the second half before a layup by Mahady cut the deficit to 37-33 with 15:48 left in the half. The Vulcans then put together a 12-0  run over a five-minute stretch midway through the half to take a 45-37 lead after a jumper by Mahady.
