JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (Sept. 30) – Behind a pair of goals in a span of just over two minutes in the first half, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team claimed a 2-0 victory at Pitt-Johnstown on Tuesday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.
With the win, the Vulcans improve to 3-5-1 overall and 2-2 in league action. Meanwhile, the Mountain Cats fall to 1-7 this season with a 0-3 mark in conference play.
Cal U scored the opening goal of the game at the 24:23-mark when freshman
Djordje Babic (Datteln, Germany/Comenius Gymnasium) scored on a free kick from just outside the top of the box. The Vulcans added to the lead in the 27th minute when fellow freshman
Nathan Delgado (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) scored on a shot from the left side of the box to the far post off a feed from senior
Brad Colvin (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep). After halftime, the Vulcans nearly added an insurance goal with just under 20 minutes remaining when a shot by junior
Russell Tattersall (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) hit off the crossbar.
Senior
Shane Donovan (Pipersville, Pa./Central Bucks East) tallied three saves while registering his first shutout of the year. UPJ goalkeeper Nate Kleya finished with three saves in the losing effort.
The Vulcans finished the game with a 17-8 shot advantage and posted a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
Cal U, who has played four games in the last seven days, returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 5, when it hosts Seton Hill at 5 p.m.
