Vulcans post win over Millersville, 2-1

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 27) – Behind two unanswered second-half goals, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team recorded a 2-1 win over Millersville in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play Saturday afternoon at Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.

The win marked the first victory over Millersville since the 2008 season and saw the Vulcans improve to 2-4-1 overall and 1-2-0 in league play. Meanwhile, the Marauders fell to 2-5-1 this season and 1-1-0 in conference action.

After allowing a Millersville goal from Christopher Sosa midway through the first half, Cal U tied the game at the 67:18-mark with a goal by senior Jeffrey Kyei (Tübingen, Germany/SIT Tübingen) on a penalty kick. The Vulcans broke the tie in the 82nd minute with the game-winning goal by freshman Nathan Delgado (Lancaster, Pa. /Conestoga Valley) off a feed from classmate Djorjde Babic (Datteln, Germany/Comenius Gymnasium). Delgado tallied his first career goal off a beautiful strike from 20-yards out that beat Marauder goalkeeper David Brubaker.

Senior goalkeeper Shane Donovan (Pipersville, Pa. /Central Bucks East) earned the win while making three saves. Brubaker made four saves while suffering the loss.

Cal U finished the game with 13-10 advantage in shots after teams combined for 18 shots in the second half. The Vulcans also held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks after both teams collected three corner kicks after halftime.

The Vulcans return to action on tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 28, when they host a non-conference contest against Chowan at 2 p.m.
