CALIFORNIA (March 31) – The California University of Pennsylvania softball team belted three homers in Game 1 at Lilley Field on Monday afternoon while earning a doubleheader sweep of Seton Hill in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play, winning 8-0 in Game 1 and 4-2 in Game 2.

With the sweep, the Vulcans improve to 9-4 overall with a 2-0 mark in divisional action. The doubleheader marked the first games for Cal U in two-plus weeks, as it last played on March 16. Meanwhile, the Griffins drop to 13-5 this season with a 3-3 record in league play.

In Game 1, Cal U earned a run-rule victory with homers by three different players. Junior right fielder Shelby Heyd (Innisfil, Ontario/Nantyr Shores Secondary) finished 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, three RBI and two runs scored, while freshman center fielder Kaity Finley (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) added a pair of hits, including an RBI double. Freshman left fielder Megan Jahoda (Buchanan, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) added a solo homer and sophomore first baseman Lindsay Reicoff (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) posted a three-run homer, her third of the season.

The Vulcans jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on the homer by Reicoff. Seton Hill advanced a pair of runners into scoring position in the third inning before the last out of the inning was recorded on a rundown pickoff attempt at third. Cal U added to its lead in the fourth with homers by Jahoda and Heyd before adding a pair of two-out runs in the sixth with back-to-back RBI doubles by Heyd and Finley.

Sophomore Alex Sagl (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Trafalgar) tossed a five-hit, complete-game shutout to improve to 6-2 this season. She tallied five strikeouts and issued one walk in 6.0 innings (75 pitches), while forcing the Griffins to leave six runners on base. Seton Hill junior Christine Henderson (6-2) suffered the loss after being roughed up for eight runs (all earned) on nine hits and one walk in 5.2 innings (93 pitches).

In Game 2, the Vulcans scored runs in each of the first three innings to take a 4-0 lead. Finley led off the bottom of the first with an infield single and later scored on an RBI fielder's choice. Senior catcher Natalie Wideman (Mississauga, Ontario/Streetsville Secondary) delivered a two-out RBI single in the second before sophomore designated player Erica Vallecorsa (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) lined a two-out, bases-loaded RBI single in the third. Seton Hill narrowed the deficit in the top of the sixth with a two-run homer by shortstop Carlee Wickstrom.

The trio of Finley, junior shortstop Breanna Morris (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg Central) and Vallecorsa each tallied a pair of hits in the victory.

Freshman Kaity Davis (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) earned the complete-game victory while making her home debut and improved to 3-2 this season. She allowed two runs (both earned) on six hits with no walks in 7.0 innings (74 pitches). Griffins freshman Hope Pehrson (3-1) was saddled with the loss after yielding four runs (all earned) on nine hits and one walk in 2.2 innings (60 pitches).
