Arman Marks (Louisville, Ky./Eastern) recorded his first career double-double to help lead the Vulcans to a 69-63 win over Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play on Saturday afternoon at McComb Fieldhouse.
With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team improves to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in divisional action. Meanwhile, Edinboro falls to 2-1 overall behind a 1-1 mark in league play.
Marks finished the game with a team-high 22 points and 12 rebounds. He shot 7-of-12 from the floor and six-of-eight from the free-throw line. Junior
Khalil Jabbie (Alexandria, Va./Edison) finished with 14 points and freshman
Tony Richardson (Sterling, Va./Dominion) totaled 10 points on four-of-five shooting.
The Vulcans went on a 10-3 run over a 6:30 stretch to extends their lead to 17-10 lead after a free-throw by freshman
Daniel Sapp (Streetsboro, Ohio Streetsboro) at the 11:20-mark. From there, Cal U took its largest lead of the first half after a layup by sophomore
Jake Jacubec (Struthers, Ohio/Struthers) gave the Vulcans a 33-23 lead with just under two minutes to play before the break before taking a 34-28 halftime lead.
In the second half, Edinboro trimmed the Cal U lead to 38-35 after a layup Tommy Scales, who later pulled the Fighting Scots to within one at 40-39 on a jumper midway through the second half. Edinboro then tied the game at 47-47 on a three-pointer from Jaymon Mason. Cal U and Edinboro then traded points before the Vulcans took a 58-53 lead with a free-throw by Jabbie with 3:24 left to play in the second half. From there, Cal U made its free-throws to hold on for the win.
The Vulcans finished the game shooting 47.1 percent (24-for-51) after shooting nearly 52 percent (14-for-27) in the first half. In comparison, the Fighting Scots shot 29.5 percent (18-for-60) from the floor and 28.0 percent (7-for-25) from beyond the arc. The Vulcans out-rebounded the Fighting Scots by a 43-37 margin and held a 26-15 edge in points off the bench.
Mason scored a game-high 23 points for Edinboro while connecting on 5-of-13 shots from the floor, including four-of-nine from three-point range.
Cal U returns to action on Monday, Nov. 24, when it hosts Penn State-Greater Allegheny in non-conference play at 7 p.m.
