EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (Nov. 1) – The Vulcans qualified for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament on the final day of the regular season with a 2-0 victory at East Stroudsburg in league play on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team improves to 6-10-1 overall and 5-6 in conference play. The Vulcans earned the sixth seed in next week's PSAC Tournament and will travel to face Seton Hill in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Meanwhile, the Warriors finish the season with a 5-12-1 overall record behind a 3-8-0 mark in league action.
Freshman
Jeremy Perez (Donora, Pa./Ringgold) scored the game-winning goal, his first career goal, in the 43rd minute on a header with an assist from junior
David Deamer (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern). The Vulcans added an insurance goal at the 82:28-mark when senior
Tyler Woolum (Gahanna, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) recorded his third goal of the season, and second in his last four games, with assists from freshman
Nathan Delgado (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and senior
Jeffrey Kyei (Tübingen, Germany/SIT Tübingen).
Senior goalkeeper
Shane Donovan (Pipersville, Pa./Central Bucks East) recorded his fourth shutout of the season, and seventh of his career, after making two saves. East Stroudsburg goalkeeper J.B. Pahls suffered the loss while playing all 90 minutes.
Cal U out-shot East Stroudsburg by a 17-9 margin, including a 9-4 edge in the first half. The Vulcans also held a sizeable 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Vulcans open play in the PSAC Tournament on Tuesday when they travel to face Seton Hill in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
