Vulcans record tie against Seton Hill, 0-0

CALIFORNIA (Oct. 4) – The California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team battled to a 0-0 double-overtime tie against Seton Hill in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play Saturday afternoon at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.

With the tie, the Vulcans move to 5-2-2 overall and 5-2-1 in league play. Meanwhile, the Griffins stand at 4-4-2 this season behind a 4-3-2 mark in conference action.

The teams battled for control throughout the first half, as the Vulcans and Griffins combined for just five shot attempts. Sophomore Marissa Antrilli (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) nearly broke the scoreless tie at the 9:44-mark but her shot was saved by Seton Hill goalkeeper Carolin Edenhofner. In the second half, Cal U out-shot Seton Hill by a 9-5 margin. At the 61:21-mark, goalkeeper Meghan Jayes (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) saved a Megan Warman shot and senior Haley Henderson (Pickering, Ontario/Dunbarton) nearly beat Edenhofner less than a minute later.

Jayes made five saves while recording her third shutout in her last four games, and fourth shutout of the season. Edenhofner also totaled five saves while playing all 110 minutes.

Cal U out-shot Seton Hill by a 14-8 advantage and finished with a decisive 12-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Vulcans return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 8, when they travel to Mercyhurst at 6 p.m.
