GREENSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 28) – In a meeting of teams tied for third place in the divisional standings, the Vulcans suffered a 3-0 loss (31-29, 25-17, 25-13) at Seton Hill on Tuesday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.
With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team falls to 21-8 overall after suffering its third loss in four matches. The Vulcans also fall into fourth place in the divisional standings with a 13-5 mark in league play. Meanwhile, Seton Hill improves to 25-4 this season behind a 14-4 record in conference action.
Senior
Laurel Miller (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) finished with a team-high nine kills on 50 attempts, while the trio of sophomore
Danielle Hayes (Erie, Pa./McDowell), freshman
Ashley Leto (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and redshirt freshman
Rachel Snyder (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) each finished with at least five kills. Sophomores
Kristen Scurpa (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) and
Megan Litoborski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) guided the offense with 17 and 11 assists, respectively, in the losing effort.
Junior
Samantha Rudy (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) led the team with 15 digs against the Griffins. Leto and senior
Taylor Melidona (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) finished with 12 and 10 digs, respectively, while Miller and Scurpa both posted eight digs. Junior
Miranda Fouzie (Kingston, Ontario/Sydenham) registered nine blocks (three solo) with Hayes and Snyder both tallying six blocks.
The Vulcans continue their road trip on Friday, Oct. 31, when they travel to face Edinboro at 7 p.m.
