EDINBORO, Pa. (Oct. 31) – The Vulcans tied a season best with only seven attacking errors on Friday night in a 3-1 win (26-28, 25-9, 25-21, 25-21) at Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.
With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team improves to 22-8 overall and 14-5 in league play. Meanwhile, Edinboro has lost four of its six matches and falls to 22-10 this season behind an 11-8 conference record.
Junior
Mary Lavery (La Plata, Md./La Plata) led the team with 12 kills on a blistering .611 hitting percentage and redshirt freshman
Rachel Snyder (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) tallied 10 kills while hitting at an impressive .500 clip. Senior
Laurel Miller (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) posted eight kills, while sophomore
Danielle Hayes (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and freshman
Ashley Leto (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) both added seven kills. Sophomores
Megan Litoborski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) and
Kristen Scurpa (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) directed the offense with 23 and 16 assists, respectively.
Junior
Samantha Rudy (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) and Scurpa each paced the defensive effort with 13 digs, as Scurpa finished with her third assist/dig double-double in the last four matches. Miller and Litoborski both totaled 10 digs in the victory with Litoborski now having 10 assist/dig double-doubles this season. Hayes and Lavery each registered four blocks and three other players posted multiple blocks.
The Vulcans continue their weekend road trip tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 1, when they travel to Slippery Rock at 2 p.m.
