Women's Soccer tops Bloomsburg, 2-1

CALIFORNIA (Oct. 18) – Senior Chelsea Crockett (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford) and junior Janelle McCann (Burlington, Vt./Tilton School) each scored a goal, as the Vulcans registered a 2-1 win over Bloomsburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play Saturday afternoon at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer extends its unbeaten streak to seven games and improves to 10-2-2 overall with a 9-2-1 mark in league action. The Vulcans sit in third place in the conference standings with four games left in the regular season, highlighted by games against the two teams tied for first place. Meanwhile, Bloomsburg falls to 6-7-1 overall and 5-7-1 in conference action.

Crockett started the scoring in the 77th minute with a header off a corner kick by senior Erin Hogan (Beaver, Pa./Beaver). Crockett has now scored a goal in five-straight games and has now tallied seven goals over the last seven games. The New Hampshire native moved into sole possession for fourth place in school history with 32 career goals and now leads the PSAC with 10 goals this season.

Just over four minutes later, McCann added an insurance tally when she scored off a feed from senior Taylor Scurci (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) from just inside the 18-yard box. McCann is tied for second in the league with eight goals, which ties her career high set last season. The duo of Crockett and McCann has now combined for 14 goals and 33 points over the past seven games. The Huskies cut the lead to 2-1 with a goal from Chrissy Hollan at the 87:53-mark.

Sophomore goalkeeper Meghan Jayes (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) earned the win while making five saves. Bloomsburg goalkeeper Megan Deak made four saves while suffering the loss.

The Huskies out-shot the Vulcans by a 10-7 margin after Cal U was limited to one shot attempt in the first half. Cal U finished the game with a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Vulcans return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 22, when they travel to Mansfield at 4 p.m.
