Vulcans blank Alderson Broaddus, 1-0

PHILIPPI, W.Va. (Oct. 15) – Senior Chelsea Crockett (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford) scored a goal for the third-straight game on Wednesday night, as the Vulcans claimed a 1-0 victory at Alderson Broaddus in non-conference action.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team improves to 8-2-2 this season behind a 5-1 mark on the road. Meanwhile, the Battlers fall to 2-9-1 overall after losing their fifth-straight game.

Crockett scored her league-leading eighth goal of the year in the 23rd minute off an assist from junior Janelle McCann (Burlington, Vt./Tilton School). Over the past five games, the duo of Crockett and McCann has combined for an impressive 10 goals and four assists while helping lead the Vulcans to a 4-0-1 mark.

A native of New Hampshire, Crockett is now tied with Cal U Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Kim Kottmeier (1992-95) for fifth place in school history with 30 career goals. Crockett also now sits alone in fifth place all-time in school history with 82 points, breaking a tie with former teammate Carley Work (2009-12) at 80 points.

Sophomore Meghan Jayes (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) registered her fifth shutout of the season, finishing with five saves after making four stops in the first half. A-B goalkeeper Tayler Garcia posted seven saves while playing all 90 minutes in the losing effort.

The Vulcans attempted seven shots in each half and out-shot the Battlers by a 14-8 margin. Cal U tallied all three corner kicks in the game.

Cal U returns to action this weekend with home games on back-to-back days, beginning Friday, Oct. 17, against Lock Haven at 1:30 p.m.
