Miles invited to NFL Combine

CALIFORNIA (Feb. 21) – The California University of Pennsylvania football team will be represented at the NFL Combine for the third-consecutive year, as defensive back Rontez Miles (Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) will be participating at the event in Indianapolis, Ind., at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Miles joins former teammates Josh Portis (2009-10) and Rishaw Johnson (2011) as the only players in school history to attend the NFL Combine. Miles is one of only nine players from NCAA Division II programs invited to attend the annual event, which is attended by the top executives, coaching staffs and player personnel departments from all 32 teams.

Miles was selected a First-Team All-American by American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), Associated Press (AP) and D2Football.com for a second-straight year in 2012. He established a career high with 75 tackles (43 solo) and also tied for fifth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) with four interceptions.

A 6-1, 210-pound senior, Miles finished his career ranked fifth in school history with 257 tackles (156 solo), the most by a defensive back. He was selected the PSAC West Defensive Player of the Year as both a junior and senior, combining for nine interceptions his last two years. Miles received All-America laurels nine times over the last two seasons and participated in the Texas vs. The Nation All-Star Game last month.

Miles is one of 25 safeties, including 12 free safeties, scheduled to work out at the NFL Combine. Among the top-rated safeties attending this year's NFL Combine are LSU's Eric Reid, South Carolina's D.J. Swearinger and Texas's Kenny Vaccaro. Miles and William & Mary cornerback B.W. Webb are the only two defensive backs from non-FBS programs invited to the event.

Workouts at the NFL Combine begin Saturday, Feb. 23, and defensive backs are scheduled to participate on Tuesday, Feb. 26, live on NFL Network.

The 2013 NFL Draft will be held at Radio City Music Hall in New York, N.Y., on April 25-27 and will broadcast live on a variety of ESPN outlets and the NFL Network. In 2011, cornerback Tommie Campbell was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the seventh round to become the first Cal U player drafted in over 30 years.
