CALIFORNIA (Jan. 14) – California University of Pennsylvania senior offensive lineman
Eric Kush (Bridgeville, Pa./Chartiers Valley) was recently selected to participate in the East-West Shrine Game on Saturday, Jan. 19, at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Kush is one of five players from NCAA Division II programs invited to play in the East-West Shrine Game, the longest running college all-star football game in the country. He becomes just the third Cal U standout to participate in the East-West Game, as offensive lineman
Rishaw Johnson and wide receiver
Thomas Mayo both played in last year's game.
A three-year starter, Kush started all 11 games this season and finished his career with 32 combined starts at left tackle and center. This year, he anchored an offensive line that helped Cal U average 33.0 points, 130.7 rushing yards and 423.5 yards of total offense per game. For the season, Cal U allowed only 13 sacks on 430 pass attempts – the second-most in school history.
Kush was an All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) First-Team selection as a senior and recently received all-region honors from both Daktronics (Second Team) and Don Hansen (Third Team).
A native of Bridgeville, Pa., Kush is the only player from the PSAC invited to the East-West Shrine Game. He is joined on the East roster by several notable players from NCAA Division I programs, including Pitt running back Ray Graham, Penn State linebacker Gerald Hodges and Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein - one of three Heisman Trophy finalists.
A total of 37 players from last year's East-West Shrine Game were selected in the 2012 NFL Draft and 62 East-West alumni are enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The East-West Shrine Game will broadcast live on the NFL Network at 4 p.m. with pregame coverage starting at 3:30 p.m.
