SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (April 24) – The California University of Pennsylvania women's track & field team's 4x400-meter relay established a new school record on Saturday while competing at the Shippensburg Paul Kaiser Classic.

Shakeria Love (York, Pa./Central York),
Sandy Estep (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor),
Jerica Snedden (Carrolltown, Pa./Cambria Heights) and graduate student
Clare McSweeney (Cork, Ireland/St. Aloysius) finished the 4x400 in a record time of 3 minutes, 51.34 seconds. The Vulcans crossed the finish line second overall, trailing the pace of Shippensburg by only three-hundredths of a second. The previous record was set in 2008 by
Danielle Malay,
Monique Testa (Oakdale, Pa./West Allegheny), Holly Urban and Heather Jarjisian and was eclipsed by over two seconds on Saturday.
As individuals, Love, McSweeney and Snedden all collected second-place finishes in different events. In the 400-meter dash, Love crossed the finish line in 58.33 seconds, while Snedden posted a personal-best time of 2:16.49 in the 800-meter run. McSweeney also ran a season-best time in the 1,500-meter run, finishing in 4:46.26.
Freshman
Erin Kling (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown) also established a season-best time in the 3,000-meter run, posting a time of 10:45.88 to finish sixth overall in a field of 19 runners. Classmate
Farath Raphael (Long Island, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) finished third in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.82 seconds after placing fifth in the preliminaries at 15.67 seconds.
In the high jump, freshman
Amber Saunders (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) won the event after clearing 1.59 meters (5-2 1/2 feet).Fellow freshman
Skye Sankey (Butler, Pa./Butler) established a season high of 3.05 meters (10-0 feet) in the pole vault to improve her ranking on the PSAC performance list.
Freshman
Patriece Thompson (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 11.28 meters (37-0 1/4 feet).
Cal U is scheduled to return to action next weekend when it competes at the 25th-Annual Jesse Owens Classic, which is hosted by Ohio State from April 30-May 1.
