Vulcans close out Rebel Games with sweep

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 6) – After suffering their first loss of the season yesterday, the Vulcans closed play at the Rebel Spring Games on Friday with victories over Northwood University (Mich.) and Wilmington University (Del.).

The California University of Pennsylvania softball team improves to 9-1 with all 10 games being played as part of the Rebel Games.

Cal U opened the day with a 4-2 victory over Northwood behind home runs by senior Heather Bihler (Eighty Four, Pa./Trinity) and freshman Alyson Johnson (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg Central). Bihler belted a two-run homer in the first before Johnson added a solo longball in the sixth inning.

Junior Sonia Petrosoniak (Mississauga, Ontario/Clarkson) earned the victory after throwing 4.2 innings and registering four strikeouts, while sophomore Maria Greco (Pickering, Ontario/Notre Dame Catholic) worked the final 2.1 innings to collect the save.

The Vulcans posted an 8-0 victory in six innings against Wilmington in the second game. Junior Lauren Shaheen (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) tossed 5.2 scoreless inning to earn the win.

Junior Kayleigh Braim (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) and Biehler each collected multi-hit games with Biehler recording four RBI.

Cal U is idle for a week before returning to action at the Glenville State College Tournament from March 13-15 in Glenville, W.Va.
