Softball takes split at Rebel Games

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 5) – The California University of Pennsylvania softball team took a split of its action on Thursday in contests against Mount Olive College (N.C.) and No. 20 Georgian Court University (N.J.) at the Rebel Spring Games.

With the split, the Vulcans now hold a 7-1 overall record after winning their first seven games of the season.

In the 4-1 victory against Mount Olive, junior Sonia Petrosoniak (Mississauga, Ontario/Clarkson) improved to 3-0 this season after throwing a complete game. She scattered three hits over 7.0 innings and registered five strikeouts.

Freshman Jillian Russell (London, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic) and senior Heather Bihler (Eighty Four, Pa./Trinity) each posted two hits in the game. Russell also collected three RBI in the game.

Cal U suffered a 4-2 loss to nationally-ranked Georgian Court with Maria Greco suffering the loss after lasting 0.2 inning. Petrosoniak and junior Lauren Shaheen (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) combined to finish out the game in relief with nine strikeouts.

Russell went 3-for-3 against Georgian Court, while junior Kayleigh Braim (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) finished with two hits.

The Vulcans conclude play in the Rebel Spring Games tomorrow, Friday, March 6, when they face Northwood University (Mich.) and Wilmington University (Del.).
