SALEM, Va. (March 22) – The No.6 Vulcans managed a split of their two games at the Salem Tournament on Sunday, winning 9-3 against Shepherd University after suffering a 3-0 loss to the University of Charleston (W.Va.).
After winning four of five games at the tournament, the California University of Pennsylvania softball team holds a 16-2 overall record.
Against Shepherd, sophomore
Maria Greco (Pickering, Ontario/Notre Dame Catholic) earned the victory after setting a season-high with 12 strikeouts – one shy of her career high.
Junior
Julie Mackenzie (Mississauga, Ontario/Meadowvale) belted a three-run home in the second, while classmate
Julia Mueller (Bairdford, Pa./Deer Lakes) added a two-run double in the victory.
The Vulcans return to action on Tuesday, March 24, when they host Mercyhurst College in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action at Lilly Field. The home-opening doubleheader is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
