Bernarding broke the school record in the 800-meter run over the weekend while at the 58th-annual Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary. He placed third overall in the seeded portion of the event with a time of 1 minute, 50.84 seconds to eclipse the previous school mark set in 2011 by three-hundredths of a second. Bernarding also reached the NCAA provisional mark while making his season debut in the 800 meters in Virginia.
