A veteran of the athletic department, Kelly Sabo is in her third year as the Director of Academic Support for Student-Athletes at Cal U.
Sabo joined the Vulcans as a graduate assistant for the women’s basketball team in the 2013-14 campaign. She has continued to aid the women’s basketball program as a volunteer assistant over the last six years and also served as the interim assistant men’s and women’s golf coach in the 2016-17 season. Sabo was a volunteer assistant when the Vulcans captured the 2015 NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship.
A former teacher within the Steel Valley School District, Sabo helps maintain academic eligibility for all student-athletes within the department. She is responsible for organizing study halls, providing advisement and tutoring to student-athletes, performing classroom checks and reviewing weekly grade checks. Additionally, Sabo serves as the advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Cal U.
A graduate of Gannon, Sabo appeared in over 100 games for the Lady Knights from 1997-2001. As a junior, she helped Gannon reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time in over a decade. The following year, the Lady Knights advanced to the finals of the GLIAC Tournament for the first time in school history and also posted their first-ever win in the NCAA Tournament.
Sabo earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Gannon in 2001. She later completed her master’s degree in exercise science and health promotion with a concentration in sport psychology from Cal U in 2014.
