With coaching experience at both the NCAA Division II and III levels, Katie Tetzlaw enters her 13th year as an assistant coach at California (PA) and was elevated to associate head coach in the summer of 2022.

Since joining the program, Tetzlaw has helped the Vulcans capture their second NCAA National Championship and post a 261-83 overall record (.759). Cal has appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 10 of the last 12 seasons and has advanced to at least the regional final four times. The Vulcans have won three PSAC Championships (2015, 2016, 2023) after the program hadn’t claimed a league title in nearly a decade.

Tetzlaw previously served one season as an assistant coach at Slippery Rock following a two-year tenure as head coach at Keystone (Pa.), a NCAA Division III program. She also has served as an assistant coach at Bethany (W.Va.), Allegheny and Washington & Jefferson.

A native of Pittsburgh, Tetzlaw gained experience in the PSAC and the NCAA Division II level as an assistant coach with Slippery Rock. She previously posted a 16-34 overall record as head coach at Keystone. In her second year with the Giants, Tetzlaw guided the program to four-straight victories to close the year with an 11-14 overall record, which nearly equaled the win total from the previous two seasons combined.

Tetzlaw was a four-year player and three-year starter at Bethany under then-head coach Jina DeRubbo. During her career, she helped the Bison capture three Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) titles and earned All-PAC Honorable Mention status as a senior. In the 2001-02 campaign, Tetzlaw started 10 games and helped the program tie the then-school record for wins in a season and record the program’s first victory in the NCAA Tournament. She started a career-high 25 games two years later, as the Bison broke the school record with a 23-5 overall record.

Following her playing career, Tetzlaw served one season as a graduate assistant at Bethany before spending two years as an assistant coach at Allegheny. She helped lead the Gators to a combined 37-17 overall record with only eight combined losses in conference play.

Tetzlaw then served three seasons as an assistant coach under DeRubbo at Washington & Jefferson. The Presidents reached the NCAA Tournament in each of her last two seasons after winning the ECAC South Region Championship in 2007-08. During her time at W&J, Tetzlaw worked with back-to-back PAC Player of the Year recipients in Emily Hays (2008-09) and Kennan Killeen (2009-10).

A product of North Catholic, Tetzlaw earned her undergraduate degree in physical education from Bethany in 2004 and completed her master’s degree in sport management from Cal in 2009.
