Lucas Exner

One of the most prolific goalkeepers in program history, Lucas Exner enters his first season as a volunteer assistant coach at Cal U in 2019.

Exner ranks among the top five in virtually every goalie category at Cal U. He sits second all-time in school history with 280 saves, 11 shutouts and 4,865:43 goalie minutes played. Exner became the first goalkeeper in program history to earn All-PSAC First-Team laurels three times in a career. Additionally, he was tabbed the 2016 PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Year and the 2015 PSAC Freshman of the Year.

As a freshman, Exner received NSCAA Second-Team All-Region and All-PSAC First-Team status after appearing in 14 games at goalkeeper. He ranked among the top five in the conference in save percentage and goals-against average, while the Vulcans made an appearance in the quarterfinals of the PSAC Tournament.

Exner started all 17 games and registered six shutouts as a sophomore, while Cal U posted a 10-win campaign and made a third-straight appearance in the PSAC Tournament. He became the program’s first-ever PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Year after placing among the top 15 nationally in total saves and save percentage. Exner also received NSCAA and D2CCA Second-Team All-Region laurels, while repeating as an All-PSAC First-Team selection.

As a senior, Exner received All-PSAC First-Team honors for the third time in his career after ranking in the top half of the league in total saves, saves per game and save percentage.

Exner earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management last spring after completing an internship with the strength & conditioning department at Harvard in Boston, Massachusetts. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree at Cal U in business administration.
