A former starting linebacker for the Vulcans and a 1st Lt. in the U.S. Army, Spencer Lynn enters his first season as the director of social media and alumni relations at California (PA) in 2022.

Lynn played for the Vulcans from 2010-14 before serving as a player and coach professionally in Germany. Following his playing career, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2016 and completed his service at the Schofield Barracks in Oahu, Hawaii.

During his college career, Lynn played for head coaches John Luckhardt (2010-11) – a 2022 College Football Hall of Fame inductee – and Mike Kellar (2012-14). He totaled nearly 250 tackles during his career while starting 27 games. Lynn ranked second on the team with a career-high 90 stops as a redshirt freshman in 2011, as the Vulcans made a fifth-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Playoffs. As a senior in 2014, Lynn led the team and ranked among the league leaders with 87 tackles while earning All-PSAC West First-Team honors.

Lynn then spent time in Germany in the summer of 2015 a player and defensive coordinator for the Osnabruck Tigers. He returned the United States following the season and served as a coach that fall at the scholastic level with his alma mater, Belle Vernon.

A native of the Mon Valley, Lynn joined the U.S. Army in July 2016 and was commissioned as an officer in February 2017. He earned the Col. Jess Walls Distinguished Officer Candidate Award for graduating atop of his class at Officer Candidate School. Lynn later completed U.S. Army Air Assault School and U.S. Army Jungle School and was awarded the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge, the Army Achievement Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon and the Physical Fitness Badge.

Lynn returned to the mainland in 2020 and has since served as a coach at the scholastic level at Baldwin, a Class 5A program in the WPIAL. In the private sector, he serves as the Northeast Regional Manager for KOS Naturals following nearly two years with Compound Solutions, Inc.

At Cal, Lynn became only the second player in program history to be selected a CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-American in 2014. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management in May 2014 before completing his master’s degree in business administration the following year. Lynn was an initial honoree in the school’s ’40 Under 40’ class in 2019.

Lynn and his wife Jamie, along with their dog Trooper, reside in McMurray, Pennsylvania.
