A record-setting quarterback for the Vulcans, Noah Mitchell returns to the California (PA) football program in 2026 as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Mitchell previously served as the wide receivers coach in 2024 before becoming the inaugural head coach of the Cal flag football program last season. In 2024, he worked with a receiving corps that helped the Vulcans advance to the PSAC Championship and Super Region One Championship while finishing the year ranked No. 12 in the AFCA Top 25 poll. Mitchell helped mentor wide receiver Eric Willis III, who eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards for the first time in his career, and repeated as an All-PSAC West First-Team selection.
In his first season as a head coach, Mitchell led the inaugural Cal flag football program in the spring of 2026 before returning to the football coaching staff this summer.
Mitchell was the most prolific quarterback in school history, starting all 43 games during his career from 2018-22 while setting virtually every career passing record at Cal. He was named PSAC West Freshman of the Year in 2018 before earning PSAC West Offensive Athlete of the Year honors following his junior campaign. Mitchell was also a two-time All-PSAC West selection and received postseason recognition from both D2CCA and Don Hansen in 2021.
A native of Ohio, Mitchell finished his career with a school-record 10,788 passing yards while becoming one of only 10 quarterbacks in PSAC history to eclipse 10,000 yards. He also set school records with 88 touchdown passes, 897 completions, 1,489 attempts and 11,055 yards of total offense.
As a junior, Mitchell threw for a career-best 2,937 yards and 25 touchdowns while completing 64.1 percent of his passes. He helped the Vulcans open the season with eight consecutive victories and climb as high as No. 3 in the country before finishing the year ranked No. 21 in the AFCA Top 25 poll. As a senior in 2022, Mitchell totaled 2,628 passing yards and 19 touchdowns while completing 65.6 percent of his attempts.
Mitchell was tabbed to the All-PSAC West Second-Team as a freshman in 2018 while becoming the program's first freshman quarterback to start a season opener since 2004. He set the freshman school record with 2,759 passing yards.
Prior to Cal, Mitchell played at Milford Academy in New York, where he threw for nearly 2,500 yards and 27 touchdowns. He was a three-sport athlete at Euclid High School in Ohio, where he was a Division I first-team all-state selection in football as a senior while also competing in baseball and basketball.
Mitchell earned his bachelor's degree in communication studies from PennWest in 2022 and completed a master's degree in teaching education with a concentration in social studies.
