Mike Evans enters his 11th season as the offensive line coach on the Vulcans’ coaching staff.  His offensive line units have ranked among the PSAC elite in recent years, while clearing lanes for some of the league’s top running backs.

In his 10 years at Cal U, Evans has coached a dozen different All-PSAC players, two Gene Upshaw Award finalists and two Academic All-Americans. He has also mentored three All-American offensive linemen since 2006, including Eric Kush, who was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2013 NFL Draft. Former two-time All-American Tim McCutcheon was a first-ballot selection to the Cal U Athletic Hall of Fame this year.

Evans’ offensive line have helped pave the way for four different 1,000-yard backs since 2004 when All-American Antoine Bagwell led the PSAC and ranked second in the country with over 1,750 rushing yards.

As a player, Evans was a three-year starter at tackle and guard at Mercyhurst after transferring from Akron. He was named an All-American by Don Hansen’s Football Gazette and as a senior he played in the Snow Bowl, a Division II all-star game.

Evans earned a free-agent contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1998 before being invited to mini-camp by the New Orleans Saints the following year.

After starting his coaching career at Berkshire High School in Burton, Ohio, Evans worked with Saginaw Valley State in University Center, Mich., for four seasons prior to joining the Vulcan coaching staff.

Evans and his wife Jennifer reside in McMurray, Pa., with their son, Mike Jr.
